HARVEST SUNDAY CHURCH LUNCHEON

October 2, 2011

On Harvest Sunday, non-perishable goods were collected at the 10:30 service and donated to the Dominican Sisters, for their outreach with Lille's homeless population. Debbie delivered the foodstuffs collected and reported that the Sisters were most pleased and grateful for the contribution. Well done, CCL!

"Music for a Summer Evening"

A wonderful concert held

at CCL on Saturday 25 June 2011

The benefit Summer Concert featuring the International Singers, under the inspired direction of Simon Fletcher, and invited soloists was a huge success, with a very full church and much merriment, including an old-fashioned music hall sing-along at the end of the concert (when was the last time you had a chance to sing 'Moonlight Bay'???) The church is deeply grateful to Simon for organising this concert and all the musicians who participated. Also grateful for the generous donations of those in attendance who contributed handsomely toward our roof-repair fund!

Congratulations to the Brownies' and Rainbows'

on the success of their self-sponsored walk:

"Christ Church for Christchurch (New Zealand) " !!

The event was well attended and over €250 was raised to help rebuild Christ Church Cathedral, which suffered tremendous damage from an earthquake on February 22nd.

Participants include (but are not limited to) our courageous chaplain Debbie (and her sponsored dog, Campbell!), Morna, Pauline, Sophie, Leila, Carla, Megan and Drina!

The troops wish to thank all those who

took part and donated generously.

Any late donations will be gratefully

received and passed on to the relief fund.

Please see Pauline Cecchin if you'd like to

make a late donation.

19-27 March: "Discussion Week" at CCL!

This is the week when all of the groups that meet during the week at Christ Church will be discussing the results of the survey we all participated in last Fall to help us determine where we are and where we want to go as a congregation. So, if you are a member of a group at Christ Church, this would be a very good week to attend so that we can have the benefit of your analysis and feedback. Every little helps, and every voice that speaks up makes us a stronger community!

Friday, March 4, 2011  Evening Prayer Service commemorating

the 2011 Women's World Day of Prayer

Women's World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action, organised and led by Christian women who call the faithful together on the first Friday in March each year to observe a common day of prayer and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service.

WWDP_Womens_World_Day_Prayer

The service is written by a different country each year and that country then becomes the focus of the world's prayers on the day itself, which begins as dawn breaks over the islands of Tonga in the Pacific and continues across each continent until the last services of this special day are held back in the Pacific,on the islands of Samoa, circling the world in prayer for 36 hours.

Women's World Day of Prayer logo

The symbol of the Women's World Day of Prayer was designed in 1982 for the service prepared by women of Ireland, both north and south, and was then adopted as the International Logo.

The design comprises arrows converging from the four points of the compass, four figures kneeling in prayer, the Celtic cross and a circle representing the world and our unity through

all our diversity.

Many thanks to the dozens of volunteers and all our cake and quiche bakers who helped to make this year's sidewalk café such a big success.

Of course, we are particularly intebted to our braderie organizers – Pam Deegan, Frances Coester, Anna Gastaldi and David Bolton, whose tireless efforts for months in advance made it all possible.  Three cheers to the four of you!
